Excerpt from Moving In #NA #Novella

I’m working on edits for book #2 in the Moving Series and thought I’d post a teaser from Book #1

Dean’s POV

There’s a note on the fridge when I get to my flat overlooking La Lucia’s famous white sand beach.

We need to talk. I will come over for dinner tonight.

Love,

Mom

My mother is shameless when it comes to breaking into my apartment. Every second of my day has to accounted for. My parents need to cut me some slack. People change—they’re always reminding me, so why the fuck does my mother keep looking for clues to suggest I might’ve slipped up?

I wonder what she and the old man have up come up with after reading the shit Ugly Betty posted. More charity work? No. It has to be something more serious.

My blood runs cold for a moment. I’ve always been perceptive when it comes to my parents, and this time I sense they’ve outdone themselves. Mom is particularly sensitive to what society thinks. She will go to any lengths to keep her reputation intact, and her ideas usually border on unreasonable.

Why does anyone have to take anything Ugly Betty says seriously? Sure, she’s amazingly popular in blogging circles in South Africa. But why the fuck do people pay any attention to the shit she posts? She’d had over a thousand comments the last time I checked her post. It’s like she posted pics of my hard, thick cock the way people were reading her blog.

I’ll find out soon enough.

The traffic’s eased up by the time I head out of La Lucia for the heart of the North Coast. Kwa-Zulu Natal is definitely the most laid back, beautiful place I’ve lived in. I love the anonymity of living here and being able to surf the waves before heading to campus every morning. The best part is the sunshine. Winter is almost nonexistent on the Kwa-Zulu Natal North Coast. People here don’t really care if you’re a celebrity or just a regular person minding your own business. They just let you be.

Unless they’re Lace Higgins.

“Arriving at destination,” my GPS says, cutting into my mental rehearsals of me shaking sense into Lace Higgins. I’ve pictured her with braces, unkempt, mud-colored hair, and garish makeup.

Lace lives in a pretty decent apartment complex near the only shopping center in Salt Rock. The beach isn’t too far off. In fact the complex is near enough for fine sea spray to drizzle on me when I get out my van. It’s a one-street town guaranteed to help anyone blend into obscurity. I bet her acid fingertips are the reason she has to live in a place where people give a shit about who she is and what she does for a living.

Lucky for me, security is pretty lax. I race up the stairs and pause outside her door. A split second before my knuckles can connect to door number eleven to knock, it swings open.

“Alison…dammit, you forgot…” The leggy blonde pauses after realizing I’m not Alison.

Her mouth drops open, and so does her satin robe.

Fuck. She’s as naked as the day she was born beneath the butter-yellow fabric. My cock hardens in seconds. She shivers slightly, and her nipples harden, and…I look down before she pulls the robe together… Her muff is shaved and so smooth I almost reach out and stroke her. Damn. There’s not an ounce of fat on her. Her tummy’s flat, her breasts full and ready to be tasted, and her skin’s a creamy white I could lick and bite until every inch of her was covered in little red marks.

“Show’s over, punk. Can I help you?” Green eyes flash blue murder at me while she knots the belt of her robe securely in place.

The acid in her voice is enough to soften my cock. “Maybe.” I can do acid too. “I’m looking for Lace Higgins.”

She gasps like I’ve proposed sex on the cold, hard floor. Her loose bun falls out of place, covering her face in fine, golden strands. She pushes the hair off her face and then looks me in the eye. “Why?”

“None of your business. This is between Lace and me.”

Casey and Carlos

Releasing from Breathless Press on September 12th, 2014.

Casey hasn’t seen Carlos in four years, but a business trip brings the ex-lovers together, making them question whether the spark is still really there.

Blurb: Recently divorced, Casey has been longing for a man’s touch. So when business brings her back to Carlos, the one that got away, it has to be fate. The four years apart have only done him better, and all she can think about is having his arms, and body, wrapped around hers. But Carlos is not the same man he was four years ago, and Casey too is feeling the weight of too much time gone by. Can Casey help reignite his fire or has time left them behind?

EXCERPT:

Her breath caught as she followed him up the staircase, tucked to the far side of the house. Carlos had always been fit enough, but it looked like he’d taken up some new form of exercise in the past four years. He was beefier, yet still lean. His ass moved round and tight in front of her as they climbed the stairs. At the landing, he gestured in front of them.
“This is my studio, but it’s all yours for tonight.”
It was a rec room that took up the whole second floor, and far more standard male than the ground floor alluded to. Movie posters, gaming systems, books scattered on floors and coffee tables, and, off to one side, the trumpet, asleep in a bed of sheet music. In the corner there was an overstuffed couch just about as wide as she was long – it would be great to sleep on, even better if he could bend her over that armrest and fuck her until dinner was ready.
She cleared her throat, deciding adult friendships could be fun, even after four questionable years. “I thought I’d be sharing a bed with you?” She tried to keep her tone playful as she sauntered toward the couch. She tossed him a smile and she caught a glimpse of him looking very stricken. Shit. Too far. Things are too different now. Abort!
Maybe too much time had passed in general. Maybe he was courting a girl and wanted to take it slow with her. Maybe he no longer found her attractive, four years becoming the dagger in the heart. Maybe he’d become celibate, or found her life too normal and boring. There was a whole list of reasons why she shouldn’t make the first move.
“I was just joking,” she said after a moment, rolling her eyes. “Come on, lighten up.”
He exhaled slowly, looking down at the ground as his tongue found the corner of his mouth. “I know it was a joke, Case.”
“In case you forgot, we used to share a bed.” She looked at him pointedly, already horrified that the words were coming from her lips. What was the getting at? Who had authorized this dialogue?
He squeezed his eyes shut and laughed softly. “Oh, I remember.”

Review of Eyes Only by HK Sterling

Eyes only is an excellent short read high on suspense. This Flirt available from Breathless Press http://www.breathlesspress.com and has huge potential for a full length book. I can’t say too much without spoiling the book. Ike is a wet behind the ears marine who learns bitter lesson after indulging in a sordid affair. I enjoyed Eyes Only and I recommend it to readers who don’t have time to indulge in a full length novel. H.K. Sterling doesn’t disappoint.

Blog Tour and Sneak Preview of a Flawed Jewel by Dawn Brower

Please welcome Ms. Dawn Brower on my blog today. I’ve had the privilege of reading a review copy of a flawed jewel. I absolutely love the sexy male lead. So how exactly does Dawn create such devastating character? Hmm. I’d say it has something to do with this awesome author’s background. Let’s take a look.

Dawn Brower holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, a Master of Arts in Education, and is currently working on a Master of Arts in Liberal Arts with concentrations in Literature, History, and Sociology. She works as a substitute teacher and enjoys the flexibility it gives her to concentrate on her other endeavors.

Growing up she was the only girl out of six children. She is a single mother of two teenage boys; there is never a dull moment in her life. Reading books is her favorite hobby. There is nothing like a nice glass of wine and a good book to relax with at the end of the day.

There are always stories inside her head; she just never thought she could make them come to life. That creativity has finally found an outlet. If you want to contact Dawn you can visit her webpage at http://www.authordawnbrower.com, her facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/DawnMarieBrower, on her blog http://dawnbrower.wordpress.com or her twitter page at http://www.twitter.com/dawnab33.
1. What’s your favorite thing about writing?

There is supposed to be a favorite thing? Writing is hard. The characters don’t always behave as they should. I guess if I have to pick a favorite it would be creating the dialogue. The banter between characters can be amusing to write at times.

2. Most writers are also readers. What’s your favorite book?

I do not have a favorite book. It is whatever I am reading in that moment. I have plenty of favorite authors, Iris Johansen, Richelle Mead, Kresley Cole, Gena Showalter, the list could go on for miles.

3. Everyone reaches a point where they are at an impasse and need to do something besides write for a while. What’s your favorite activity to clear your head?

Spending time with my family or my friends, I might go on facebook and chat or just see what is going on in the world around me.

4. It’s Friday night (Yes, I know it’s Wednesday morning, bear with me, please!) What’s your favorite way to unwind after a long week?

Read. Reading has always been my favorite activity. The only other thing that might be better is a nap.

5. Plain and simple- your favorite hero and why?

I am attracted to the bad boys. I have issues I know. I like that they are willing to do anything to get the job done. My youngest son can usually pick out who I am going to like best in a book, movie, or television show. It’s usually the one that skates the line at being bad more than good.

My favorite television character is Damon Salvitore on The Vampire Diaries, sexiness aside he is compelling because he feels so deeply and is willing to do whatever it takes to protect the woman he loves. Even if it isn’t something she agrees with.

6. Here’s a lightning round-

Favorite song?

At the moment? (It changes all the time) Demons by Imagine Dragons
It has topped my playlist while I have been editing.

Band?

Maroon 5

Genre of fiction?

I don’t have a favorite I jump all over the place.

Movie?

Gone with the Wind

Color?

Blue

Food?

Italian

Beverage?

Tea

Candy?

Almond Joy pieces, or Sixlets

Television show?

The Vampire Diaries

Book store?

Amazon, lol. I don’t go to actual book stores anymore with so many digital books available, there’s no need.

Next we have a sneak peek at what A Flawed Jewel’s about.

Pieretta boards a ship forever changing her destiny. Thor kidnaps his rival’s granddaughter for revenge, but will love become his new purpose?

Pieretta Carlyle has just experienced the loss of her father, leaving her alone in the world except for her grandpere, Comte Renard Dubois. The comte insists that she travel to France to live with him. Pieretta doesn’t want to leave Charleston and the only home she has ever known, but young ladies do not live by themselves. Her grandpere is her guardian and she has to do what he says. She reluctantly has the servants pack her trunks for her impending voyage.
Thor has a score to settle and Pieretta is the key to all of his revenge. He became a pirate unwillingly after his business partner tried to murder him to gain control over their holdings. He needs to acquire Pieretta by any means necessary and he doesn’t mind plundering a ship to attain her.
When Pieretta and Thor meet they are instantly attracted to each other against their better judgment. Pieretta is disgusted by the pirate’s actions and believes he murdered everyone aboard her ship…except for her. Thor knows what Pieretta believes, but goes ahead with all of his plans anyway, she is only supposed to be a tool to achieve vengeance. What happens will depend on Thor’s need for revenge and Pieretta ability to forgive him for all his dastardly deeds.

I couldn’t resist an interview with the male lead from A Flawed Jewel.
Please give a warm welcome to Thor Williams from A Flawed Jewel by Dawn Brower today as we sit down and see what makes him/her tick.

Q: So tell us about yourself. What got you in the crosshairs for your author?

Well I am a pirate,it doesn’t take much for me to get in anyone’s cross hairs. I do that just by breathing.

Q: What was it that drew you to your mate?

Besides that she is beautiful? Well she is also too smart for her own good at times. Makes it interesting to argue with her, of course the making up part is even more fun.

Q: A little naughty fun, where was the wildest place you seduced your partner(s)?

In my cabin on the Sea Rover. I had considered other places, but we just haven’t gotten around to them yet. It’s only the beginning though I’m sure that it’s only a matter of time before we hit them all.

Q: Boxers, briefs or Commando on a man?

What are boxers or briefs? Is this question meant for me? I don’t have time for this foolery.

Q: If your partner wants to seduce you, what’s one sure fire trick he/she can play?

Licking her lips, getting naked usually helps too.

Q: What is the one place on your partner’s body that you know will drive them wild-in and out of bed?

Her neck is extra sensitive…

Q: What was one of the most embarrassing things your author did to you in A Flawed Jewel?

Hey we’re not going there she promised it was permanently deleted, as in gone forever. It’s something we will never speak of. Next question please.

Q: Anything else you would like to add?

I am still upset she wouldn’t let me murder the whole ship and sink it. Mayhap I can try to convince her to modify it to at least let me kill a few of them…What? *sigh* she says that she was told that we can’t be that bloodthirsty.

And here’s something for the ladies. Isn’t Thor delicious?

HK Sterling. Blog Tour

Please welcome fabulous author, HK Sterling on my blog. HK Sterling is promoting her brand new flirt EYES ONLY. There’s also a little something special in the book – a 50% discount coupon to spend on your next Breathless Press purchase.

I’m a sucker for looking at covers first before reading the blurb so without further ado lets have a look at the cover.

20140328-121312.jpg

Ooh. I love.

So what’s EYES ONLY about?
In the shadowy world of covert operations, romance is sometimes the name of the game.

In the shadowy world of covert operations it’s hard to tell the good guys from the bad. Is there even room for romance? Sometimes romance fits in only too well. Read along with the twists and turns of “Eyes Only” where trust is a rare commodity and you’ll never know which side to root for until the very end.

This is definitely on my must read list.

Excerpt

“I dunno, maybe I had a wild hair that night or maybe I was going a little bit stir crazy. In any case, I think Charlie sensed it and that’s why he made the suggestion. So this one time, I decided I’d go to the restricted bar. What harm could it do? I’d have a few drinks with Charlie, hear some old Marine stories, and call it a night.

I couldn’t have been more wrong.

Isla Aldon was her name. My eyes found her as soon as we stepped in the bar. A crowded bar too. And she was a short thing.”

Very nice, HK.

A Taste For Killing

By H.K. Sterling

Excerpt

He had six-pack abs, and I wanted to feel the carbonation. This one dressed like the stereotype of a construction worker, down to the handkerchief he used to wipe sweat off his forehead. I don’t know if he or the hot day brought it out, but sweat poured off of me too. He had no interest in me as a person, though. I was invading his territory. Still, I enjoyed the view. For my part, I knew my clothes looked crappy. I didn’t have to wear uniforms anymore, but my street clothes, well they were very—street. So there I stood, a turd in the sun in front of this Adonis. Oh well.
He pointed to a small trailer up a muddy hill. The supervisor I asked to see apparently stayed in there. Stayed, as in never left. Great. Mud. Now I’d be a dried turd in the sun. Adonis went back to digging and I started the trek up the hill. At least I came with boots. Steel toed.
Once I made it to the trailer, I heard an argument going on inside.
“Look, I don’t care who you are. The plans are publically filed. Go get them yourself!” yelled someone.
Then I heard a voice I knew. Calm, cool, subversive. “Is there any reason you’re being so difficult? A man did die on your watch.”
An encounter I hadn’t planned on. Well, at least not until later tonight. I knocked loudly on the door and with my sweetest voice said, “Hello, boys. Am I interrupting something?”
“Great,” groused the supervisor. “A party.” He appeared to me like another stereotype, puffing on a cigar over a fat jowl line and rotund stomach that threatened to overturn the small desk he was behind. I guess there’s a reason for stereotypes. He looked about four hamburgers away from a heart attack.
On a wooden chair in front of the supervisor sat Jack. A fellow independent detective, an ally at times, a competitor…and my on and off lover.
“Well, well, well,” he said smiling, but I could tell he wasn’t happy to see me. Not here. It meant we were both working the same case. “Hello, Carolyn. Who hired you?”
“Parents.”
“Girlfriend,” he answered back.
We stared at each other. Complications.
The supervisor didn’t give a damn and said to me, “Well, missy, I’ll tell you the same thing I told this guy.” He jerked his thumb around to Jack. “The plans are publically filed and that’s all I have to say about it.”
I tried a different tactic. “That’s fine with me. I have no problem going downtown for a copy.” I wore my practiced, saccharine smile. “But I wonder, could you tell me the name of the architect? Please?” I smiled again. God, this job sucks at times.
The supervisor sighed. “Jones, Evan Jones.”
“Thank you so much,” I said, smiling my best smile again. “I’ll get out of the way and leave you two boys to…whatever you were doing.”
I opened the door to go and started to shut it only to find Jack following me out.
“Sure, flash your tits and get what you want.” Boy was he in a bad mood.
“There was no tit flashing in there. Face it, testosterone was not a good choice in that situation.”
Jack’s response: a grunt.
“Besides,” I tried to placate him, “I didn’t get the plans either.”
“No, you did one better.”
“That’s assuming the architect will have anything to do with me and cooperate.” A thought occurred to me. “So are you going there too?”
“No, I might as well wait and see what you turn up. Besides, I have my own leads.”
“Are you planning to share?” Just call me hopeful. As in full of shit, because that’s where hope always seemed to lead.
“No,” he said, still grumpy.
“I see. So it’s gonna be like that.”
“I guess so.”
I felt like such a female. Damn. But I had to ask.
“Are we still on for tonight?”
“Yeah.”
I wasn’t convinced but didn’t push it. God, sometimes I hated myself. But we were good together—when it was good—when his competitive edge didn’t get the better of him. Though I was one to talk. I did the same thing at times. Hence our on and off status. But currently we were supposed to be on. So, I kept it light in the spirit of things to come.
“Okay, master detective, I’ll leave you to your leads. See ya.”
“See ya,” he replied, already preoccupied, pondering a piece of paper he’d taken from his pocket.
I made my way down the hill in my muddy boots.

“No,” he said, still grumpy.
“I see. So it’s gonna be like that.”
“I guess so.”

“Are we still on for tonight?”

“Okay, master detective, I’ll leave you to your leads. See ya.”
“See ya,” he replied, already preoccupied, pondering a piece of paper he’d taken from his pocket.
I made my way down the hill in my muddy boots.
