Fine, I guess.”
“What do you mean you guess? Why don’t you call her up and ask her how she is?” Crew says.
“Maybe I will.” I glance at Connor. The conversation between him and the red head’s getting hectic. She’s laughing at something he said. I get up suddenly struck by a sudden need to embarrass Connor.
“Where are you going?” Hayden asks.
“Watch me.” I head over to the girl who managed to captivate Connor after his self-imposed thirteen months of celibacy.
“Hi,” I greet when the girl notices I’m standing behind Connor.
“Hi.” She smiles.
“I was wondering if I could move our tables together.”
Connor realizes it’s me when he hears my voice. He glances at me, mortified at my suggestion.
“Ty?” he says surprised before swearing me under his breath.
“Ty?” a second, softer voice repeats.
I turn towards Bree’s friend for the first time. “Lana?”
My world pauses when she smiles at me. I forget about embarrassing Connor.
“Hi.” She waves slightly. Her cheeks redden.
“Hi.” Why can’t I come up with anything to say whenever I’m around Lana?
Confusion clouds the redhead’s face. “You two know each other?”
Lana smiles shyly. “Yeah. Ty, meet my best friend, Bree. Bree, Ty.”
“Would you mind if I pulled our tables together?” I ask Lana since Connor still hasn’t replied to me.
“Not at all,” she replies. Her eyes sparkle.
Holy dessert on crap sticks. I barely know her but I’ve missed her. The guys help me pull the tables together without breaking or spilling anything. I pull my chair closer to Lana’s. Our hands touch briefly and once again shadowy images of Lana being pulled against her will from me flashes in my head. I can’t tell who’s pulling her away neither do I know the reason she’s being taken away. The only thing I’m sure off is that I’m the one she’s being yanked away from.
Connor and Bree carry on talking and don’t pay much attention to what’s going on around them. Hayden and Crew resume eating. Lana glances at me. My chest does a series of crazy flip flops. I’ve never been so badly affected by a girl before. I’m still speechless.
Her mouth is bow shaped. She isn’t wearing any lip color. My hormones shoot to my brain when she licks a tiny seed off her lips. I imagine crushing her lips against mine — and wonder how soft her lips are and how warm the inside of her mouth is. She glances at me in that instant. A warm heat creeps up my cheeks.
Thank God, Lana can’t read minds.
So what if she could? A tiny voice in my head questions, I know you want her to see what you’ve been doing to her in your dreams.
Dream, I correct myself, I only dreamt of her once.

Snippet from my Sexy Super Hero Biker Series

She shakes her head without making eye contact. “No.”
Something’s wrong. The girl sitting next to me has turned into the exact opposite of the chick I nearly made love to.
“Then?”
She shakes her head. “It’s been a long day. I really should get some rest.”
“Okay.” I adjust my seat and turn the key in the ignition.
“Do you regret it?” Her gentle voice catches me off guard.
I leave the gear in neutral and turn to face her. “Not one bit,” I tell her hoarsely.
She smiles. “I’m a little scared,” she admits eventually.
“Of me?”
She shakes her head. “No.”
“Then?” I prompt.
She looks away. “Sex,” she whispers.
“Which part?” I ask.
She shakes her head. “I’m not sure. Maybe all of it.”
I place my hand over hers. “It isn’t scary if it’s with someone you love.”
“I’m sorry,” she whispers.
“Why?”
“Ruining our moment.”
Her soft voice tugs at my heart. “You haven’t ruined anything at all.”
I caress her lips and wish I could kiss her again. My hand brushes hers when I shift the truck into gear and I’m haunted by another image of Lana being forcefully taken away from me. I move my hand away quickly. I need to get some sleep. I’m probably exhausted and hallucinating as a result. That must be it.
“I’d love to do this every night,” I tell her.
“Get drenched on the promenade?” she asks
“If it means snuggling up next to you afterwards — then hell yeah.”
She laughs. “You make me feel like the sexiest woman on earth.”
I’m glad she’s forgotten about her earlier apprehension. “You are the sexiest woman I’ve ever met.”
“That’s because you bring out the best in me.”
Slowly the part of me that Cora destroyed after betraying my family is sprouting back to life.
“And you’re the best thing that ever happened to me.”

Free Friday Chapter Five Excerpt #NA #RT #Love

Hi Everyone,

Here’s a Friday Treat from Chapter Five of my NA out on query, Rescue Me.

What was that all about?” Cora asks me after finishing her cappuccino.
I ignore her. God only knows how she found me here. I left home early this morning and watched the ocean have some fun with the storm from the Blythedale Beach parking lot. Nothing beats an electrical storm over the sea.
“You could have at least introduced me,” she goes on.
I signal for a waiter. “Please get a coffee with extra cream and four slices of bar one cake for the lady.”
“What?” Cora snaps at me. “Please don’t get me any more coffee or cake,” she tells the waiter.
He nods in acknowledgement. “Will that be all?”
“Yes,” Cora answers before I open my mouth. “What’s wrong with you?” she demands once the waiter’s out of earshot.
“You mean apart from the fact that you showed your repulsive face here when I was hoping for some peace and quiet? I was hoping to shut you up. Maybe if your mouth was busy you’d quit being a pain in my ass.”
Cora flinches like I’ve slapped her. “I’m just doing my job…”
I raise my hand and hold it up in “speak to the hand fashion”. “I don’t have time for your dumb excuses.” I glare at her. “I know all about you and how you like killing everyone around you.”
She stares at me. “That’s what you think, Ty.”
“I have proof.”
She opens her mouth to reply then shuts it again.
“You sold us out, Cora.” She avoids looking at me.
She stares at the table.
“Do you honestly expect me to forget what you did to me and my family?”
“I’m sorry,” she whispers.
“Sorry doesn’t cut shit with me.” I pause when the waiter arrives with my tea. “We trusted you,” I continue after he’s left. “We thought you’d protect us. What did you do in turn? You sold us out to the highest bidder for money.”
“I had no idea they’d do that to you and your family. I was young and naïve and believed them when they said all they wanted was to help your family.”
“Spare me the bull shit. They paid you a million bucks to get close to Caleb and lure him into your damned science lab.”
She shivers slightly. “You know that I love Caleb.”
“If you loved Caleb you wouldn’t have handed my entire family over to scientists.” I remind her. “We don’t have any terminal illness. All that research must have cost packets. You should’ve spent it looking for cures for incurable diseases instead.”
“It wasn’t supposed to turn out that way,” she says softly.
“You mean you had no idea you were exposing my family? Like fucking hell you didn’t. Do you have any idea what they did to me in there, Cora?” I glare at her careful to keep my temper in check just in case anyone notices. “They hooked us to machines and ran tests on us like we were animals. Have you ever had an electric current run through your body? Do you know what that did to my Mom?” I drop my voice to a whisper. “She had to be institutionalized because of your greed.”
Cora met my family on the pretext of dating Caleb, my older brother. Like me, Caleb possessed extraordinary strength. We also pick up on thought waves — we can’t read minds or anything but we can track someone if their thoughts are powerful enough. Thoughts are made up energy and that’s what makes them travel. Usually people in danger send out the strongest thoughts or energy waves. Caleb rescued Cora from a near fatal car crash after picking up on her thought waves seconds after a truck crashed into her. He pulled her out the car wreck. Caleb never suspected Cora’s accident was staged or that she worked for a secret organization called “Feelers” who collected people like us with extra ordinary abilities and manipulated us for their evil purposes. Cora ratted on us to the “Feelers” — they paid big bucks for inside information on my family and intended using us to commit high level crimes involving billions of dollars. They kidnapped us one night and tore my family apart forever. The tests they ran on us to determine the origins of our extraordinary abilities left my Mom comatose. Caleb and I escaped one night from the lab’s holding cells and managed to get some help to go back and rescue my parents. My mother was admitted into a care facility and my father chose to stay with her. Caleb vanished without a trace shortly thereafter. I’ve spent the last two years looking for him but it’s like my brother never existed. I don’t have the heart to visit my parents. The last time I saw them was the day we placed them in the care facility.

Lost Souls Guest Blog by Sheri Velarde

First let me say a huge thank you to Sheritha for letting me stop by again! Thanks doll, you are the best!
Writing is a pretty tough though rewarding job and sometimes you need someone supportive there in your corner to keep you going when things start to look too tough. For me that someone is my fiancé William. During those time when self-doubt seeps into my thoughts, he is there to tell me that I am a good writer and that I need to keep at it. When a rejection letter comes, and yes they sometimes still do, he tells me to just move on and find a better fit for my story. When life becomes overwhelming and I just feel like giving up writing all together and quitting, he is there to encourage me to make more time and keep at it.
This year was a tough one. I lost my grandmother whom I was a caretaker for, I had major health issues, I was forced to leave my day job for various reasons and that led to financial stress. If there was a year I thought about giving up writing, well it was this year. But William, well he just wouldn’t hear of that. He insisted I keep writing no matter what. He gave me gentle pushes when I needed to get back to writing and encouraged me to keep submitting. I did indeed keep writing and Lost Souls marks my sixth release coming out this year and most of those are all thanks to my fiancé and his constant support. For that all I can say is thank you William and that I hope all authors out there are as lucky as I am to have someone in their corner that believe in them and their talent so much.

Excerpt:
Suddenly she felt a warming sensation shooting through her body, something she had never felt before in her long life. She turned to see what had caused it, or she should say who. A beautiful woman with piercing green eyes and waist-length auburn hair stood in the doorway, casual jeans and black T-shirt hugging her body’s generous curves. She was the most alluring creature Amy had ever seen, and she was staring right at her with a look of intensity in her eyes, as if she had been searching for Amy all along and had finally found her. They stared at each other for what seemed like an eternity before the connection was broken, the pale beauty shaking her head and heading towards an empty seat on the other end of the bar and returning Amy’s senses to her.
With the spell suddenly broken, Amy once again could hear Len finishing up his story as if nothing special had just happened. What the hell was that? Was the woman at the other end of the bar some sort of demon? She had to be magical and otherworldly to cause such a reaction. She certainly had otherworldly looks. Even though her hips and breasts were more ample than most angels and the like, she had the body of a goddess that begged to be touched. Amy shook her head. Len had finished, so she ordered them another round of drinks. As soon as her martini arrived she downed it and immediately signaled for another. If only alcohol affected her like it did most humans she would probably be calming down by now and not worrying about the mystery woman. Instead she still felt strange, like something had come alive inside her for the first time. She risked a glance at the red-headed siren down the way. The subtle temptress was sipping a beer, chatting with a bartender on that side of the bar. Suddenly she laughed and her whole face lit up, causing Amy to at once be jealous of the bartender and to want to be next to this woman and be the one making her laugh.
She must have been staring, for Len interrupted her inner turmoil. “She’s a looker, all right. A woman with curves too, not one of those too-skinny Hollywood types. They’re a rarity out here nowadays. If I were younger I might try to fight you for her.” He laughed. “Of course, if she picks you I would be out of the running anyways; you know, that pesky penis and all.”
It was Amy’s turn to laugh. “You know some women like both men and women.”
Len winked knowingly at her. “So I have been told. But I’ve never taken you to be the sharing sort of gal. Now get over there and let one of us live the fantasy tonight. After all, we are rock stars, go act like one!”

Guest Post – Author Sheri Velarde

First off I want to thank Sheritha for letting me stop by today! She is such a doll to invite me over to explain the inspiration behind my latest release, Looted.

I have loved Greek and Roman mythology since I was a child, same goes for art of almost any kind. And that is the very beginning of my latest release, Looted, which is going to become a series entitled Gods Behaving Badly. This series is my imaging what the gods and goddesses of old are doing in today’s world, a world where no one believes in them anymore. I am hoping that these stories will not only be fun for me to write, but also fun for my readers.

Now Looted is the first in the series and it follows Sophia, once called Aphrodite, in today’s world. The inspiration for this particular story came about from two different sources, one was the fact that I was reading a lot of real life art heist stories at the moment, from Rembrandt thefts to museums in Turkey being looted of their goods. That’s when an art heist theme started to sounds good to me. And let’s face it, if gods and goddesses lived today I would assume they would want to live a certain lifestyle and not do a lot of work for said lifestyle. I was also inspired by Robert de Niro and Al Pacino movie Heat. In it Pacino plays a detective and de Niro a theif. At one point they sit together and have a very amiable conversation and you can see the mutual respect for each other. And that is where the second part of Looted came together. Two people on opposite sides of the law with such a mutual attraction that they can’t ignore it. Sure, Sophia and Detective Stoker take it further than Pacino and de Niro did (sadly they did not even make out in the movie), but the same idea that people on opposite sides of the law can still have a spark between them.

So that’s really it, Looted is a combination of my love of mythology and art, combined with my love of movies and bam… art heist romance with the goddess of love! Makes sense to me! And as a little celebration of this release, I am having a giveaway of one of my previous Secret Cravings Publishing titles, Music and Awakening! One lucky commenter today will win!

Blurb:
Sophia longs for the days when she was worshipped as a goddess and celebrated for her glory. Now she hides in plain sight and does what she must to keep the lifestyle she is accustomed. She has never been close to discovery until one New York City Detective, Bruce Stoker, enters the picture. Now all that she is and has done could come out into the open and destroy everything. She should disappear, but there is something different about this man that draws her to him.

Detective Bruce Stoker has never had an unsolved case, but there is something different about these art heists. Money is taken, but art is given to museums. Strange. If he can find the beautiful woman who seems to be the common link, then everything should be simple. That is what he thought at least until he met the gorgeous suspect in question.

Excerpt

Bruce sat in the lounge. Another night, another expensive bar. He didn’t think his NYPD salary would take much more of this side investigation, but he knew that he was on the right track. Now he just needed to find his mystery beauty, then the real investigation could begin. He had sent out feelers to every host of the finer bars, restaurants and hotels in town, hoping to find a woman to match the description he had. Needless to say there were a lot of gorgeous women in Manhattan and he had spent more time and money than he cared to think about chasing models and actresses.

This was his last tip and his wallet thanked him. If this didn’t pan out, well then back to the drawing board. The fellows back at the station were already making fun of him for searching for a “Model Ring of Thieves,” but they all also knew his hunches always paid off. Could this be the first time he was actually wrong?

Suddenly he felt a hot tingle running down his spine, something more than his “spidey sense” the guys joked about. This was a first. His entire being seemed to be heating up from the inside. It was not unpleasant, but it certainly left him feeling confused. He turned around and saw her walking into the lounge. He had seen the best-looking women Manhattan had to offer over the past few weeks, but none of them could compare to this creature. As he stared, she turned toward him and gave a start, a look of surprise quickly passing over her face before she resumed her beautiful perfection. This was the woman he had been searching for.

Bio:
Sheri Velarde, who sometimes uses the pen name Kelly Ryan, lives in New Mexico and grew up with a fascination for all things that “go bump in the night”, so it is no wonder that she turned to writing paranormal romance. In her spare time, she fancies herself a cryptozoologist and loves to paranormal related outings, searching for things that might not really exist. She is an avid exerciser and gets some of her best ideas while on runs. She also has a bit of a wild side, which only leads to inspiration for her writing.

Being an avid reader since an early age, she has wanted to be a writer for as long as she can remember. She has been writing all her life, but only recently started to actually try to pursue her dream of writing for a living.

She is constantly putting out new material, so it is best to keep up with her on her website.
